    Replace RC-210/220 ROMs

The following information details how to replace the ROMs in your DigiCart/II Remote Control. Please pay close attention when you are disassembling the unit. Failure to do so will result in damage. Read all instructions before attempting this procedure.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: This modification to your Remote Control must be performed by qualified electronics personnel. Do not attempt this upgrade unless you have some experience working with electronics assemblies. You must follow the directions exactly to avoid any damage to the circuit board or components.

You will need the following tools and materials:
• A clean, flat work area
• A medium Phillips-head screwdriver
• A small flat blade screwdriver
• New RC-210/220 ROM (Rev. 1.3x)

Electric Shock Hazard
To protect against injury or electric shock, and to ensure against damage to the DigiCart/II you must disconnect the unit from AC power.

Static Sensitive Components
Components on the circuit boards may be damaged by static electricity carried on your fingers and tools. To avoid damage to components, always touch the metal chassis before touching the surface of the circuit boards.


 

PROCEDURE:
1. 1. Make sure power cable to DigiCart RC-210/220 is off and/or disconnected.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, open the RC-210/220 by removing the four screws on the sides and lifting the main board/keyboard assembly from the bottom cover. Note: The bottom cover will still be connected to the main board/keyboard assembly by the serial ribbon cable.
3. Remove U1 ROM from the main board/keyboard assembly.
4. Making sure that no pins are bent and the notch on the chip is consistent with the notch on the IC socket, install the new ROM.
5. Inspect that all pins on the new U1 ROM are properly inserted into the socket.
6. Fit the main board/keyboard assembly back into the bottom cover. Ensure that the display adjust shaft protrudes from the LCD CONTRAST port on the bottom cover.
7. Re-install the four screws that attach the bottom cover to the main board/keyboard assembly.
8. Apply power to the RC-210/220 and verify that the power-up sequence occurs properly.
