Insert and Punch-In Recording
Q:How do I add material to
an existing recording, or "punch in" to re-record part of a recording?
A:Insert Recording allows
you to add material to an existing recording. You can also replace unwanted material with new material. Unlike
a traditional tape recorder, you do not have to worry about erasing useful material past the end of the replacement,
or leaving a blank spot if the new material runs under the time of the piece being replaced. This is why there
is no direct way to "punch in". Rather than erasing while recording, the procedure is more like recording
a new piece of tape and splicing it in. However, the editing takes place automatically and can be undone if the
results are imperfect. The new recording will be placed in the Clipboard rather than a new file, replacing the
current contents of the Clipboard.
1. Place the Cursor at the point you wish to add the new material.
2. Place the EDIT IN and EDIT OUT marks. This can be done anywhere in the file, or at the very beginning or end.
3. If you wish to replace some or all of the audio following the EDIT IN position, then Play, Scrub or Locate to
the end of the material to be replaced. With the Cursor positioned, place the EDIT OUT mark.
4. To record the new material, hold the INSERT key when you press RECORD. When the recording is finished, it is
automatically inserted in the file. Because the recording is in the Clipboard, it can be inserted in other places
in the file by repositioning the Edit marks and pressing INSERT. If the new material is a little early or late,
it can be moved. Press CUT (without repositioning the Edit marks), move the cursor to the new location, place the
Edit marks and press INSERT.
